Places we like to go – Emerald Lake Park
Emerald is a small town in the Dandenong Ranges that has an excellent bakery/cafe. Just out of town is Emerald Lake Park, which surrounds the Emerald Lake and offers quite a few things to do.
The thing we like most is seeing the steam train Puffing Billy at it’s sidings and chuffing off towards Belgrave (sometimes Gembrook, too). Other than that there is a cafe, lots of places to have a picnic, some play equipment for the kids and lots of nice walks through the bush and around the water.
If you are happy to spend some cash, you could ride one of the peddle boats or visit the toy trains, but we enjoy the drive up, the cool weather and nice scenery. Plus a big chuffing steam train.
Be aware you do have to pay for parking ($2-6) but it is Victoria, after all.
